Frank Sowa

SOWA, Frank - age 87, of Swartz Creek, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:30 AM Monday, February 27, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Ave, Flint with Fr. Anthony Strouse celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 1-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek where a scripture service will be held at 7 PM Sunday. Visitation will also be held 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM Monday at the church. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to M.S.U. Music Therapy Program. Frank was born February 11, 1930 in Pinconning, the son of Thomas and Magdalena (Szybowska) Sowa. He married Jean Currie on June 23, 1956. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He loved Polish music and played the violin, accordion, and harmonica all by ear. Frank was an avid golfer who had two hole in ones in his lifetime and was a founding member of the Kielbasa Open at Briar Ridge Golf Course. Watching the Spartans and the Tigers was a favorite past time. He was a life-time member of Dom Polski. Frank retired from GM Truck and Bus after 37 years of service. He also had a passion for automotive body work, he bumped and painted many cars in Swartz Creek through the years. Surviving are: wife, Jean Sowa; five children, Susan Sowa, Stephen Sowa, Scott (Kelly) Sowa, Christopher Sowa, and Colleen (Keith) Tinsey; eight grandchildren, Daniel (Kelly), Jessica, Michael (Jessica), Allison, Forrest, Seth, Mason and Liberty; five great-grandchildren, Skye Lee, Nolan, Reid, Joey and Matilda; one brother, Paul Sowa.
