McARA, Monna Fay - Age 98, of Lake Fenton, widow of Circuit Judge, Harry B. McAra, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in Florida. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, October 9, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide Street, Fenton. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Interment in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be 2-8 PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road; and 10-11 AM Monday at the church. Those desiring may make contributions to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Mrs. McAra was born September 8, 1919 in Kearney, NE, the daughter of Roy and Phylena (Nee: Lawton) Allen. She was born Monna Fay Allen and, at age 4, traveled in a covered wagon from Nebraska to Colorado, and lived to see the internet age. She was a graduate of Mio High School and Hurley School of Nursing as an RN. Both she and her husband worked while Judge McAra attended University of Detroit undergraduate and law school. Upon graduation they moved to Flint, Michigan for a year with their three children and then to Lake Fenton where they had their fourth child. She was employed by Hurley Hospital. Following Hurley Hospital she was a private duty nurse. Judge and Mrs. McAra spent many years living on Lake Fenton where they first moved in 1953. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church since 1953.

Monna lived a remarkable life. She was the most of many things, including sweet, dignified, funny, kind and tough. She met every challenge with compassion and without judgment. She honored God as a practicing Catholic and member of the St. John’s Fenton congregation throughout her adult life. She showed kindness and empathy to her many friends, most of whom she outlived. She defined love to her family in everything she did. She was her family’s precious matriarch. Monna’s life was filled with children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lived to be with them and to love them. In turn she was loved by them without reservation.

Surviving are: 4 sons, Bernard L. (Louise) McAra of Grand Blanc, retired District Court Judge Michael D. (Zuzana) McAra of Cape Canaveral, FL, Robert C. McAra and fiancée Darnell of Coco, FL, and William P. (Teresa) McAra of Merritt Island, FL; 7 grandchildren, Tinney (John) Newman, Craig McAra and fiancée Rachel Booth, Megan (Michael) Phillips, Alexa (Eric) Smith, Eric (Lydia) McAra, Abbey (Tory) Buckman, and Krista McAra; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Glenna Jean Dunbar of California.

She was preceded in death by: her beloved husband, Judge Harry B. McAra; brothers, Clayton Allen and Merlyn Allen. Tributes may be shared on the obituaries page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
