Ted Fisher

November 9, 1926 — March 17, 2017

FISHER, Ted - died on March 17, 2017 at age 90. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, March 27 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton. Interment 1:30 PM Monday at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held from 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM Sunday, March 26 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, and for a half hour prior to the funeral Mass on Monday. He was born in Flint, on November 9, 1926 the youngest child of Alois and Victoria Fisher. Ted attended the "old" All Saint's High School graduating in 1944. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps. He married Doris Williams in June, 1949. They were together for 64 years. For 6 years he spent every day with her at a memory facility until her death in 2013. Inspired by the classes attended in the military, he continued his education at Flint Junior College, The University of Illinois, Western Michigan Univ.(Bachelor's), Mich. State Univ., and the University of Michigan (Master's). Ted taught School in Keego Harbor, MI from 1950-53. He worked as a teacher and counselor, at Flint Northern from 1953-1963. He served as the principal at Whittier Jr. High, Flint Central, and the Genesee Area Skill Center until his retirement in June 1983. He and Doris were members of St. Agnes in Flint, Holy Family in East Tawas, and St. John in Fenton. Ted was a lifelong member of the NEA and MEA, and a member of the Tawas Area Elks #2525. He also had membership in the Fenton Moose Lodge where he enjoyed many euchre nights. Ted was preceded in death by his siblings Larry, Bud, and Florence; and sons (infant) Theodore Jr. and Bob. Ted was well known by all for his dry wit and friendly teasing. He is loved and will be missed by his family who will always remember his unconditional love and willingness to help when needed. He is survived by: daughter, Karen Hazzard (Guy), and sons, Rick Fisher (Jackie), Ted Fisher, Ron Fisher (Liz), Ken Fisher (Paty), and daughter-in-law Joyce Fisher. Ted's grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember, with love, their grandpa/Papa Ted: Ron & Nick Thomas, Christina Fisher, Craig Fisher, Chelsea Smith, Colin Fisher, Caitlin Fisher, Jeff Fisher, Robert Fisher, Jacob Fisher, Cosmo Fisher, Connor Fisher, Addie & Izzy Thomas, Adalee & Saoirse Smith, and Kevin & Jack Leonard. He loved and was loved by the entire extended Fisher and Vandesteen clans. A thank you to everyone who took the time to visit, cook, send cards, call, care for him.
