DUCH, Albert -- Age 93, of Swartz Creek, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at his home. Al was born on February 21, 1919, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of Peter and Emma (Kroll) Duch. He married Mabel Chandler on May 30, 1943, in East Lansing, MI. Al was a graduate of Michigan State University. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1941. He worked for General Motors Parts Division for 33 years, retiring in 1974. Al was a gregarious person who loved to chat and tell jokes. But he was also competitive, taking part in race-walking events until the last few years and winning many awards. Al was a member of the United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek, the MSU Alumni Association, the Urban Walkers, GLOW (the Great Lakes Organization of Walkers), the Puppeteers of America, and the Detroit Puppeteers Guild. He was a sponsor of Child Fund International. Al is survived by two daughters: Charlene Allen of Traverse City, Michigan, and Denise Edwards (husband, Richard) of Springfield, Illinois; his grandson, Eric Edwards, of Springfield, Illinois; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Al was preceded in death by his spouse, Mabel; his parents; and his brothers: Victor, Edward, and Peter. Services will be held 11 AM Monday, December 24, 2012, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, MI, with the Rev. Kevin Harbin officiating. Interment will follow at Swartz Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
