SHAVER, Alta G. "Squirt" - Age 80, of Flint, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Genesys Health Park. A gathering for friends and family will be 2-5PM Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Squirt was born May 22, 1929 in Dimondale, Michigan, the daughter of the late Glenn and Marian (Dennie) Rhoades. She married Neil Shaver on August 3, 1947 in Dimondale. Squirt was employed as a cook by Carman School District for 23 years until her retirement in 1991. She also volunteered at election time working the polling stations in the Carman District. Squirt enjoyed square dancing and round dancing with her husband Neil, traveling all over Michigan, and had fond memories of dancing to Big Band Music in the 1940s. Surviving are her loving husband of 61 years, Neil; 3 sons, Neil Shaver Jr. (Trish) of Gaines, Mike Shaver (Suzy) of Highland, Gale Shaver (Toni) of Toledo, OH; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many wonderful friends and neighbors. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Lester and Leonard Rhoades; and sister, Ermine Huff. The family extends special thanks to the staff of Genesys Health Park Neuro-trama unit for their compassionate care.
