Barbara BRITTON

BRITTON, Barbara Jean (Kinney) age 74, became critically ill after she lost the love of her life on March 13, 2012, and she decided she couldn't live without him so she joined him in Heaven on March 31, 2012. They spent more than 58 years together and only 18 days apart. Funeral services will be held at 1:30PM Tuesday April 3, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Barbara was born on August 19, 1937 to John Irvin and Willie Imojean Kinney in Pontiac, MI. She married Bernard J. Britton on January 16, 1954 and they spent the rest of their lives together raising their 5 wonderful children: John and Patti of Flushing, MI, Bernie (Ed) and companion, Emily of Tucson, Arizona, Robert and Tracy of Clifford, MI, Terry and Brian Edwards of Linden, MI and Steve and Laurie of Flint, MI. Their children blessed them with 23 grandchildren and spouses, along with 37 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind 4 sisters-in-law, Carolyn Kinney, Joyce (Gordy) McDonagh, Donna (Van) VanTassel, and Sandra (John) Barber. Barbara was a homemaker all of her life and it was her greatest joy to do the one job God called her to and that was to be a mother. As a mother, she knew how to fix anything, discipline and then forgive, and raise her family on the principles that love and faith in God will carry you through any storm. As a family, we all knew that if mom said something, we better listen. Many great lessons and values were taught to each of us from this "simple homemaker" and we will forever hold dear the memories of mom and dad and their wonderful life together. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Bernie", her parents, father and mother-in-law, brother and brother-in-law. Contributions can be made to Bethany Missionary Baptist Church of Burton, MI.
