Barbara ROURKE

Rourke, Barbara Jane - Age 80 , of Flushing, died Sunday April 21, 2013 . A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:45AM Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Ave., Flint. Father Robert Copeland, celebrant. A funeral dinner will be held immediately following mass. Burial to be at Mount Olivet Catholic cemetery, Laingsburg. Visitation will be held 1PM to 3PM and 5PM to 8PM Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, with a rosary being prayed at 7PM. Visitation will also be held 10AM until time of mass at the church. Barbara was born December 3, 1932 in Laingsburg, MI the daughter of the late John P. and Florence A. (Soper) Hurst. Barbara was united in marriage to Donald Rourke in Laingsburg on July 7, 1956. Mrs. Rourke was a graduate and a salutatorian of Laingsburg High School class of 1950. Barbara loved being surrounded by family and friends and reading to her grandchildren. Barbara was an avid cook. Her Sunday dinners were legendary and there was "always room at the table for one more". She was an active member and volunteer at St. Pius X Catholic Church and School. Barbara was the president of the Altar Society for many years and served as treasurer for over 40 years. She ran the Red Cross Blood Drive at St. Pius for many years as well. Surviving are; husband, Donald Rourke of Flushing; Children Theresa (Fiance Daniel) Cullen of MA, Matthew Rourke of Flushing, Timothy (Angela) Rourke of Flushing and Anne Rourke of Birmingham, MI ; grandchildren, Kara Cullen, P. Conaire Cullen, Margaret "Maggie" Rourke and Cameron Rourke; brother, Ernest (Rose Ann) Hurst of Oxford; sister, Mary Ley of Concord, MI; brother Paul Hurst of St. Johns, MI; sister-in-law Annie Hurst of Laingsburg; sister-in-law Almyra Rourke of Ypsilanti and brother-in-law Jim Rourke of West Branch and over 60 nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Anna Woodworth, Bernard Hurst, Clyde Hurst, Donald Hurst, Alice Hobrla, Robert Hurst, and Patricia Rourke. Barb made us all feel like "the favorite".
