Berenice POWLISON

August 13, 1928 — February 11, 2010

POWLISON, Berenice (Johnson), age 81, peacefully entered the presence of her dear Savior on Thursday, February 11, 2010. She was the deeply devoted wife of 58 years to Hugh Stanley Powlison and loving mother to her 4 children, Paul Powlison (Joy), Keith Powlison (Ruth), Reina Powlison (Dmitris), Valerie Kaniarz (Dan); grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; also survived by 2 sisters, Gertrude Hodgson and Grace Ellen Holmes; 2 brothers, Harvey and Edward Johnson. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Estelle Carman and Evelyn McGovern. She served her Lord and her family on the mission fields of Peru, Guatemala and Ecuador where she was a beloved Bible teacher, energetic hostess, extra mom, and faithful friend to many. In retirement, she enthusiastically joined in the fellowship and ministry of Lexington Presbyterian Church delighting especially in the worship through beautiful music and the powerful preaching of God's Word. She loved and was loved by her many church friends until a devastating form of dementia required her to move to her daughter's Michigan home in June 2008. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 19, 2010 at Lexington Presbyterian Church, 246 Barr Rd., Lexington, SC. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Rd., Lexington. Memorial suggested to Josephine House (an orphanage in Peru), via Mission to the World (project #94721)
