BARNES, Catherine "Kate" - Age 87, of Fenton, passed away at Fenton Healthcare, Saturday December 3, 2011. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-5 and 6-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Lion Clubs International Foundation or Fenton V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post #3243. Kate was born May 14, 1924 in Dansville. She graduated from Dansville High School. She married Ernest V. Barnes December 23, 1944 in Lansing. Kate worked for Michigan Miller Insurance and during World War II she worked for Reo Motors. She also worked on elections for 30 years for Precinct 2 in Fenton, provided maintenance for the First Church of Christ Scientist for 14 years. Kate also was a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader, member of the Fenton V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary Post #3243 and member of Child Study Club. She also volunteered for many Lions Club Activities. Kate is survived by her husband, Ernest; children, Penny (James) Warner of Littleton, CO, Laney (Dianna) Barnes of Blanchard, Dennis (Joy) Barnes of Bushnell, NE, Barry (Steve) Barnes of Palm Springs, CA and Cynthia (Ken) Jensen of Lexington, KY; 11 grandchildren, Dawn Warner, Jeff Warner, Barbara Barnes Stein, Frank Meo, James Meo, Michael Barnes, Dawn Baker, David Cooper, Victoria Jensen Foster, Kyle Jensen and Caitlin Jensen; 16 great grandchildren; numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Barnes; her parents; 3 brothers and 10 sisters. She was a twin and the last of the 14 children.
