Delbert Priest

April 10, 1918 — June 13, 2007

PRIEST, Delbert E., age 89 of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Burton, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in Scottsdale. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at New Creation Church of God, 3472 Lennon Rd., Flint. Pastor Herbert Banks will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-9 PM Sunday, 2-4 & 6-9 PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint. Delbert was born in Boone, Michigan on April 10, 1918 the son of John and Lillie (Sayer) Priest.  He had resided in the Flint area most of his life and attended Flint Central High School. In 1938, he married Gladys M. Woggermon and she preceded him in death in 2005. He was a self employed floor covering contractor, retiring after 38 years.  Later he became Chief of  Maintenance at Bendle Schools for 15 years, retiring from there in 1984. Mr. Priest was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, PFC, serving in WW II in the Tank Division.  He was a member of the New Creation Church of God in Flint, past member of the Bendle School P.T.A. He was a member of and formed the Band Parents, and was a member of The Burton Senior Center. Delbert had been a school Board member and past president of Bendle Schools and had formed and operated the Bendle High School Teen Club for 22 years. He was a member of the D.A.V. Also he was one of the first men to carry a Girl Scout membership card. Del played Santa Clause for 20 years at Burton Fire Department. He also served on the Buton Planning Commission for eight years. Surviving are: daughters, Deanna "Dee" J. Sturk of Burton, Shirley L. Ballentine of Scottsdale, AZ, Linda D. Priest and fiance Cary Youpee of Helena, MT; brother, Paul (Judy) Priest and family of South Dakota; sister-in-law, Bette Woggermon and family of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, Dennis (Dora) Sturk, Timothy (Susan) Sturk, Darin (Sheila) Sturk, Yvonne (Earl) Miller, Stacie (Mike) French, Bryan Ballentine; great-grandchildren, Jason, Zachary, Todd, Joel, Jewell Ann and Wyatt Sturk, Kala and Joshua French, Jessica, Brittany and Sarah Miller; great-great granddaughter, Swae Miller; several nieces and nephews. Del was also preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Harold and Luella Woggermon; brother-in-law, Harold Woggermon; son-in-law, Gerald Sturk.
