McLAUGHLIN, Donald Evans - Age 84, of Fenton, died Monday, June 20, 2016. A celebration of his life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Sharp Funeral Homes, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contribution to the Wounded Warriors Project. Donald was born March 15, 1932 in Unicoi, TN, the son of William P. and Pearl L. (Smith) McLaughlin. A veteran of the Korean War, the United States Army awarded him the Purple Heart. He married Martha Louise Newcomb November 13, 1959 in Baltimore, MD and she preceded him in death April 1, 2006. Donald was a self employed carpenter for many years. He had resided in Fenton since 1972 coming from Flint. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanities. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Claudia, Alicia and Erica from the Medical Team Hospice. Surviving are: 5 children, Katherine Kearns of Fenton, Cynthia (Brian) Palmer of Virginia, Donald (Liz) McLaughlin, Jr. of Kentucky, Marynell Atuatasi of Fenton, and William (Christina) McLaughlin of Fenton; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Minute Atuatasi; and 11 brothers and sisters. In his final hours, Donald was surrounded by his loving family and faithful companions, Jack and Bootsy. Online tributes may be posted on the obituaries pages at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
