EDGCOMBE, Florence - Age 96, of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Flint, MI passed away June 20, 2009 at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, FL. Funeral service will be held 11AM Friday, June 26, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Her grandson, Kevin Miller, Associate Pastor of Tampa, Florida and Rev. John Ferris of Hope United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1-4 and 7-9PM Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34243. She was born in Montrose, MI July 14, 1912 to Samuel Marston and Carrie (Taylor) Marston. She married Ralph H. Edgcombe in Flint on September 8, 1928. While living in Flint she volunteered as a "Grey Lady" at the hospital and worked as a clerk at the Soo's Ben Franklin Store for several years. She enjoyed playing the piano and writing poetry. She was a past member of Hope United Methodist Church on Beecher Rd., Flint. After moving to Bradenton, Florida, where she had resided for the past 45 yeasrs, she worked 17 years in the office of Paradise Bay Estates in the early years while the park was being developed. Inspired by the natural beauty around her, she soon became an accomplished artist, painting and selling many beautiful pictures. Two of her favorite pasttimes were playing cards and bingo. She and her husband had seven children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph on September 8, 1987; also 2 sons, Ralph Jr. in 1945 and Jack in 2005; and 3 brothers, Earle, Harold and Lewis Marston. She is survived by 3 daughters, Ann Miller and husband Bob of Flint, Shirley Miller and husband Clint of Bradenton, Florida, June Stoakes of Palmetto, Florida; 2 sons, Larry Edgcombe and wife Beerly of Las Cruses, New Mexico and James Edgcombe of Sarasota, Florida; many grandchildren; great and great-granchildren, all to love and cherish her memory.
