Dillon, Gail Asselstine Griffin-Sackett - Age 77, of Fenton formerly of Flint, died Sunday March 22, 2015. Visitation will be held 1PM-4PM and 6PM-8PM Friday March 27, 2015 and again 10AM-4PM Saturday March 28, 2015 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint. Per Gail's wishes a memorial service will be held 11AM Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Court Street Methodist Church, 255 W. Court Street, Flint. Pastor Bob Wright officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Court Street United Methodist Church, Flint, Whaley Children's Center or Habitat for Humanity. Gail was born in Flint, Michigan on September 10, 1937, the daughter of the late Norman A.J. and Thelma (Palmer) Asselstine and was a Flint resident most of her life. She was married to Lewis D. Sackett, July 27, 1991, he preceded her in death in 1997. Gail then married William Dillon on September 12, 2009. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1955 and was a 3 year member of its Marching and Concert Bands. She earned her Associates Degree from Flint Jr. College in 1957 and her B.A. Degree from Michigan State University in 1959. Gail taught 7 years in the Flint Public School, 2 years in Highland Park Schools and 26 years with the Durand Area School District, retiring in 1996. She was Teacher of the Year in 1987-88. Her goal was to inspire children to love learning, be successful and feel good about themselves. Gail was a 4th generation member of Court Street United Methodist Church, Flint and described herself as a "Maverick Methodist" as she enjoyed Truth as found in all religions. She also belonged to the Unity School of Christianity and was a follower of her beloved Guru, Dr. Baghat S. Thind. Studying past lives and Life-after-death ideas was fascinating to her. Gail once belonged to the Flint Concert Band, was on Job's Daughters Parent Council and on Boy Scout Troop #31 Troop Committee and Merit Badge Counselor. She was a member of Beginning Experiences (B.E.) in 1980, Order of Eastern Star, Grand Blanc Chapter 507 and with her husband were a Big Brother Couple for several years. Gail also belonged to ZONTA Club Flint 1. Gail loved to travel and camp, all her life. She belonged to the Family Campers and RVers (FCRV/NCHA) for many years, holding several offices including President of her Chapter, the Flintstones 105, and earlier, starting a Single Chapter, Robins On The Move, and the National Singles Chapter, SOLOS. Gail's father came from Canada and her childhood memories were the time spent in and around Kingston, Ontario, Canada, with her family. After retirement, Gail traveled to Ireland, British Isles, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Greenland, Greece and Italy as well as much of Canada, including north of the Artic Circle. Gail was extremely proud of her family. Surviving are: husband Bill Dillon of Fenton; children, Sara Griffin (Annie Anglim) of Fenton, Jon (Lisa) Griffin of Grand Rapids, Dr. Dori (Dave) Tamagne of Manchester, MI, step-children, Elizabeth Czebieniak and family of Roseville and Leslie Hoffman and family of Farmington Hills, Robin and Michael Dillon of Disputanta, VA; beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Emma Griffin, Benjamin and Annie Tamagne, Ana and Maddie Mettler-Anglim; several special cousins both in the United States and Canada. Gail was Blessed with friends near and far, including Tom and Rita Whelan of Ireland and Junichiro and Hiroko Maeno of Japan.
