George Gembel

August 5, 1921 — October 8, 2007

GEMBEL, George- Age 86, of Johannesburg formerly of Clio, died Monday, October 8, 2007.  Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Road, Flint.  Interment in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-9 PM Wednesday and 1:00 PM until time of service Thursday.  Those desiring may make contributions to the American Lung Association.  George was born August 5, 1921 in Hazelton, PA, the son of Simon and Ella (Ritz) Gembel.  He married Margaret Yezarski May 2, 1941 in Hazelton, PA and she preceded him in death July 23, 1976.  He had resided in Johannesburg for the past 30 years, coming from Clio.  He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army.  He retired from AC Spark Plug in 1977 after 30 years of service.  He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the Moose Lodge in Lewiston.  Surviving are:  daughter,  Ella and husband Ben Nuszkowski of Mt. Morris; 3 grandchildren, Ann Herbers of Swartz Creek, Lisa Nuszkowski of Detroit, Brian Nuszkowski of Ann Arbor; 2 great grandchildren, Nicholas and Kasey Herbers; 2 brothers, John and wife Ann Gembel of Johannesburg, Tom and wife Irene Gembel of Garden; many nieces and nephews; and good friend, Brigitte Sisson of Atlanta.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, James Gembel; 2 sisters, Mary Matsko and Helen Sarno; brother, Sam Gembel.
