July 27, 1914 — August 12, 2006

HOUSE, Henry Walter - age 92, of Gaylord, formerly of Flushing, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at his residence in Gaylord. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Thomas Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-4 and 6-8 PM Friday and 12 PM until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan, 400 Mack Ave., Detroit, MI 48201. Mr. House was born July 27, 1914 in Farmersburg, IN, the son of Joseph and Sophie (Smith) House. He married Lois Geneva Bolinger in 1936 in Flint and they celebrated their 70th anniversary in February. He retired from General Motors in 1972 after 38 years of service as a Quality Inspector. He was a member of U.A.W. 598 and was one of the original Sit-Down Strikers. Mr. House was an avid sportsman and had a passion for baseball. He held many state records in Indiana and city records in Flint; he even was courted by a Chicago Cubs recruiter. Mr. House played baseball and softball up until his 50's. He and his wife spent many years in New Port Ritchey, FL where they attended Asbury United Methodist Church. Surviving are: wife, Lois of Gaylord; three children Joy and husband, Alfred Hanje of Gaylord, Jerry House and wife, Sharon of Swartz Creek, Larry House and wife, Chris of Flushing; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; seven brothers; one sister; and daughter-in-law, Connie House. Friends may share an online condolence or post a tribute at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
