Janet LAKIS

LAKIS, Janet (Shammas)-age 85, died peacefully in her sleep at her residence in Grand Blanc, MI. Private funeral and burial services will take place per Janet's wishes. A celebration of her life will be held 11AM, April 26, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Rd., Grand Blanc Township, MI 48439 and a Memorial Service will be held 10 AM, April 27, 2014, at St. George Antiochian Church, 5191 W. Lennon Rd., Flint Township, MI 48507. Janet was born on December 9, 1928, in Detroit to Philip and Adele (Haddad) Shammas. She married George Lakis on August 18, 1946. Together, they had two children-- son Marshal (Martha) Lakis and child Sarah (Michael) Melroy; and daughter Susan (William) Shaheen and their children, Andrea (Drossos) Gazis; Sara (Andrew) Keller, and Katie Shaheen. Also, she had great grandchildren--Lily, Anna Claire and Charlotte Melroy. Janet blossomed everywhere-in Grosse Pointe, where she was a shareholder in S & G Grocery Co., in Tampa FL, where she and husband George co-founded Central Florida Food Service and in Grand Blanc, where she resided following the death of her husband. She stayed active by volunteering at Genesys Hospital; and by becoming a member of P.E.O sisterhood and the Garden Club. Most of all, she was a loving and caring woman to her children, grandchildren and her many friends. Janet attended Faith Lutheran Church and St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, brother Philip, niece Nicole Shammas, and best friend Robert Crum.
