John McMillan

McMILLAN, John  Age 81, of Flushing, died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St., Flint with Fr. Douglas Osborn celebrant. Interment will be held at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-9 PM Sunday and Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. A vigil service held 7 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to St. John Vianney Catholic Church or the American Red Cross. Mr. McMillan was born June 2, 1923 in Flint, the son of John and Janet (Houston) McMillan. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Zone during World War II and had an honorable medical discharge. Mr. McMillan married Mary Ann Schwartz on January 20, 1945 in Flint. He moved to the Flushing area in 1973. Mr. McMillan was a charter member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and an usher for many years. He was an avid Tiger fan. Everyone that met Mr. McMillan commented that he was the sweetest man. Mr. McMillan retired from the Flint Post Office in 1977 after 37 years of service and spent his winters in Florida with his wife for 19 years. Surviving are: wife, Mary Ann of Flushing; daughter, Diane and husband, Donald Rockwell of Flint; son, Glen McMillan and wife, Nancy of Grand Blanc; five grandchildren, Greg Rockwell, Susan Rockwell, Tim McMillan, Nicole McMillan, Amy McMillan; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, George McMillan. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses of McLaren Regional Medical Center.
