Juanita GROOM

February 17, 1941 — December 5, 2011

GROOM, Juanita (Windy) Herron - age 70, of Byron, MI, passed away on December 5, 2011 in Clermont, FL from a heart attack. Services will be 7 PM Monday, December 12 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Linden Chapel, 209 E. Broad St., Linden, MI. Visitation with the family 4 PM until the time of the service Monday. In lieu of flowers please make donations to 'Susan G. Komen for the Cure' for breast cancer. She was born in St Johns, MI, February 17, 1941, to Lawrence and Luella (Beach) Herron. She grew up in the Owosso, MI, area where her father worked as a tenant farmer. In 1957 they moved to Byron where she graduated from Byron High School in 1959 and met the love of her life, R. J. Groom. They married January 21, 1961 and had 2 children, Cheryl and Glenn Groom. In 1967 they built their home on 5 acres of R.J.'s family farm on Duffield Road. They still reside in that home. Over her lifetime Windy had several different careers. She worked as a custodian at the Linden Area Schools for several years. Then in the 1980's she worked as the Baker at the Byron Area High School until she retired. In March of 1995 her daughter Cheryl recruited her to work part time, as the Deputy Clerk of Argentine Township, until June of 2001. Windy could always be counted on to lend a hand for any project; or she would volunteer R.J. to lend a hand. She was always available for her friends. To this day she was still in contact with friends from her childhood days in Owosso, to friends she graduated from High School with. Once Windy and R.J. both retired they started camping in their 5th wheel trailer. They made many new friends during this time. She loved to meet people and make new friends. Over the years she has touched many lives. Windy loved to read, clean house, sew, and quilt. Her favorite thing to do was talk on the phone to all of her friends and family. In recent years she loved to make pillow cases. She had made a set for every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. She loved to spend time with her family. We were very blessed over the last few years that even after battling skin cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer you knew you could count on her and R.J. to be at every great grandchild's birthday party or big family event. They even traveled to the Dominican Republic for their granddaughter Keri's wedding. We all know she loved to talk, and to give us her opinion of the right way to do things. This is one of the things WE loved about her and knew we could always count on. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Robert (R.J.) Groom and the following family members. Cheryl (Randy) Nekola, daughter, of Howell, MI. Glenn Groom, son, of Byron, MI. Nathan Miller, grandson, of Byron. Keri (Jason) Masse, granddaughter, of Grand Blanc, MI. Jennifer (Mike) Lynch, granddaughter, of Brighton, MI. Betsy Ahner, granddaughter, of Fowlerville, MI, and Joseph Groom, grandson, of Fowlerville, MI. Extended family members Annette Jones, niece, of East Lansing, MI. Megan (Mike) Chumbley, of East Lansing, MI. Haley (David) Holbrook, of Durand, MI. Ben Nekola, of Howell, MI. She was blessed with 12 great grandchildren. Other family members include Dick (Judy) Herron, brother, of Owosso, MI. Anna Mae (Chuck) (Groom) Pasco, sister-in-law, of Portage, MI. She was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Luella (Beach) Herron, and her sister Myretta (Herron) Jones.
