Karen Piper

PIPER, Karen R.; Mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister and friend, age 58, of Lake Fenton, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at home. Services will be held 4PM Monday, May 21, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, 746 S. Saginaw St. Flint. Dr. John L. Musgrave officiating. Visitation will be held 3-6PM Sunday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd. Fenton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to YWCA of Greater Flint Foundation, 310 E. Third St., Flint, MI 48502. Karen, the daughter of Dr. Walter Z. and E.J. (Sloan) Rundles was born in Ann Arbor on November 18, 1948. In 1966 she graduated from Flint Central High School, a varsity cheerleader and sweetheart of Randolph Piper. After graduating from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, and earning her Bachelor's degree in nursing, Karen married Randy in 1970. She was a nurse in Detroit until returning to Flint. Her children were born and she stopped nursing to raise her family. She returned to nursing at St. Joseph Hospital, and at Genesys. Karen was a cheerleader for her family, friends and community. When asked to summarize her life in a few words she said, "I just want to help people." Surviving are her husband, Randolph; children, Lauren S. Weber and husband John and their daughter, Abigail Karen of Marshall; Jeremy R.M. Piper and wife Amy and their son Jack Randolph of Grand Blanc, Katherine P. Roberts and husband Sean and their daughter Eloise Katherine of New York City; parents, Dr. Walter Z. and E.J. Rundles of Fenton; 2 brothers, Jeffrey and wife Linda Rundles of Denver, CO, Christopher Rundles of Traverse City; 2 sisters, Janice Rundles of New Hampshire, Lindsay Tatum and husband Victor of Fenton. Karen very much appreciated the support of her family and many friends, during her monumental four year battle with illness.
