BLACKMER, LaVern Marvin "Blackie" - Age 86, of Linden, died Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Crestmont Healthcare Center. Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 20, 2007 at Linden Presbyterian Church, 119 W. Broad St.,Linden. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Linden Presbyterian Church or Linden V.F.W. Post #4642. LaVern was born June 17, 1921 in Flint, the son of Lewis D. and Beatrice M. (Hutchins) Blackmer. He was a 1940 graduate of Northern High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. He served his country in the European Theater on a landing craft during the invasions of Africa, Sicily and Normandy. He married Barbara Louise Clark on August 21, 1943 in Flint. Mr. Blackmer was employed by M.E. Crittendon Co. for 30 years retiring in 1981. He also managed Detroit Free Press newspaper carriers for 20 years. He was a member of Spring Meadows Country Club, Linden V.F.W. Post #4642, Teamsters #337 and Linden Hard Ball Team. Surviving are: wife, Barbara; daughter, Sheila and husband Dennis Blank of Fenton; granddaughters, Jennifer L. and husband Matthew Calder, Jill S. and husband James T. Hiscock, Katherine J. and husband Michael Simeoni; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Blackmer; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Lewis, Duane and Elden.
