BLACK, Lester Harold "Billy" - Age 74, of Avon Park Lake, FL, peacefully and suddenly was called to the Lord on May 21, 2009. Born in Brownfield, Texas on October 6, 1934, he later resided in Childress, Texas, Michigan and Florida and was the eldest son of the late Eunice Marie Boroughs Black and Clyde Black. Mr. Black was often referred to as the "Golden Boy" at Childress High School. He was on the King and Queen's Court; All-State basketball player with a four year scholarship to Baylor University and Hardin Simmons University. He chose Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas; and a Golden Gloves Boxer - Light Weight for seven years. He also was a gifted musician, playing the piano, guitar and was a singer on the radio in Central Texas and cut many 45 rpms, mainly country western and Christian music. He also served his country four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Donaldson Air Force Base in Greenville, South Carolina where he was a dispatcher in the Lebanese Action in 1958. He worked at GM's Ternstedt Plant for over 30 years and served as a Committeeman for UAW Local 326 in Flint, Michigan. He loved playing the guitar, piano, singing, fishing, gardening and helping others. He was a Christian man and was a member of the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are his beloved children: son, Leslie Dean Black and daughter-in-law, Shari Lee Black, grandchildren, Eric Vincent Black and Leah Danielle Black of Durand, Michigan; daughters, Mary Cheryl Black of Durand Michigan and Dallas Texas, Sonja Lynn Black Everett and grandchildren, Joseph Dean Dungerow of Grand Blanc, Michigan and Andrea and Christopher Everett of Arlington, Texas, LeAnn Renee Black Jacobs and son-in-law, Arthur James Jacobs and grandchildren, Alaina Julianne Jacobs and Avery James Jacobs of Lennon, Michigan; as well as his first wife, Mary L. (Wilson-Black) Kittle and husband Richard B. Kittle of Durand, Michigan; his nephews and niece, Christian LeRoy Black of Swartz Creek, MI, Tiffany Black of Indiana and Shane Black of Tampa, Florida; and many relatives in the state of Texas, as well as his loving best friend, Margaret McNeil of Avon Park Lake, Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Eunice Marie Boroughs Black and Clyde Black of Lennon, Michigan; brother, LeRoy Black of Swartz Creek, Michigan; and his beloved second wife, Patricia (Potter-Smith) Black of Flint, Michigan. Services will be held 2PM on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek with Pastor Wes Morris, from The Rock Church, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1PM until time of service on Monday. Interment at Flint Memorial Park.
