Mary was born on November 30, 1913 to Frank and Irene Schulte. She was seven when her mother passed away, yet she became a loving role model of motherhood to all of her adoring children and grandchildren. Married at age 33 to her beloved Allister, her sincere joy was to embrace her role as wife and mother. Six children were born to Al and Mary in the next ten years. As the children grew older, she utilized her talents writing columns for the Southfield Sun and later the Fenton Independent. Her way with words were an inspiration to her many devoted readers. Her skills in the kitchen were appreciated by guests and relatives from near and far. The home was always open to friends and strangers who enjoyed many creative and delicious meals, and apple pie for dessert, at her welcoming table. Mary had a wonderful sense of humor, and never lost it, even as her body started to wear out. Laughter was a part of all her days. She was committed to the Lord Jesus, and had a personal walk with Him. She knew the power of prayer, and her family counted on her as an intercessor. Her last days were spent with many family members and friends at her side. Hymns were joyfully and tearfully sung, and many comforting Psalms were read. She passed peacefully into Heaven's Gates with her devoted family at her side. Mary leaves to treasure her memory, 6 children, Bruce and Mille Godfrey of Catawba, WI, Peter and Jill Godfrey of Fenton, Mary (Godfrey) and Gary Horning of Fenton, John and Linda Godfrey of Belgrade, Montana, Rosanne (Godfrey) and Steve Burns of Linden, Janey (Godfrey) and Jeff Brooks of Fenton. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Allister; and her sisters, Loretta and Francis.
