Mary was born Marie Frances Cervenak in Lennon, Michigan on April 1, 1917 to Anthony and Marie (Valasek) Cervenak. Mary, the eldest daughter, and her six sisters, grew up on the family farm on Beecher Rd. in Clayton Township. She became a popular beautician; her sparking eyes graced Flint Journal advertisements in the 1930's. Jack Vladimir Pesik, who would become a noted and sought after house painter and decorator, introduced himself to Mary in 1938 and he proposed 3 weeks later. They were happily married for 64 years. After Jack served in the Navy during World War II, they moved back to Flint. They were blessed with three children, Marvin, Jackie and Margot. Mary was a devout Catholic. She loved sitting and talking with her family and so many dear friends who treasured her kindness, caring, and understanding. She was very active throughout the years, serving on the Flint Child Forum, as President at Coolidge School and as Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. While being active with St. Matthew's School Mother's Club, the St. Cecilia Society, Flint's International Institute, she also found time to frequently volunteer at Genesee Memorial Hospital. Jack and Mary especially loved music. They belonged to and led, singing groups throughout the later years. Jack played the accordion and Mary Sang. Many good times were shared with the Czech Singers, the Slavic Folksingers of Swartz Creek and at ZCBJ in Owosso, the Swartz Creek Friendship Club, and family cottages on McCaslin Lake. From an early age, Mary became a prodigious cook and baker; she treated her friends, family, and especially her grandchildren to an endless supply of breads, cookies, and Czech kolaches. In later years, she handwrote several detailed family history books and assorted cookbooks to be passed on to her loved ones. She was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting making many beautiful afghans to give away. Upon moving to Florida, Jack and Mary continued their participation in music and crafts. They were active in CSA of St. Petersburg, the Hobby Club of Cape Coral, the Polkateers of South Florida, the Czech-American Club of Cape Coral and they formed and directed their own musical group. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2002 as well as her sisters, Lillian Hawks and Helen White. Mary's survivors include: son Marvin Pesik of New Lothrup, and his fiance Janis Emerson: daughter Jacqueline MacDonald and her husband Duncan of Flint; daughter Margot Cohan of Estero, FL. She has 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Ann Schneider of Covina, CA, Fran Adams of Flint Township, Betty Monahan of Traverse City, and Jeanne Lee and her husband Harry of Spring Hill, FL; and many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
