SPENCER, Naomi - age 66 of Linden, died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at her home after a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, August 27 at Faith Baptist Church, 4518 East Silver Lake Rd., Linden with Pastor Jack McMaster and Pastor Ken McMaster officiating. Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Sunday; 1-4 PM & 6-8 PM Monday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital or Keyofhope.org. Naomi was born August 7, 1947 in Hurley, VA, the daughter of Henry and America Matney. She married Steve Spencer on December 7, 1968. They had four children of their own, plus four "adopted" children, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She attended Hurley High School and years after being a devoted homemaker and stay at home mom, she later attended Baker College, earning a degree in Fashion Merchandising. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Linden. Naomi enjoyed years of drag racing, riding dirt bikes, snowmobiling and in recent years she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved spending quality time with her family at her cabin in Rose City. Christmas was a very special time for her. She spent many sleepless nights making sure everything was perfect for her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved attending sporting events for her children, and later her grandchildren. She loved the Lord and loved reading her bible. Naomi is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Steve Spencer; her children, Stephanie and husband Bill Creger of Clarkston, Steven and wife Barb Spencer of Linden, Shannon and husband Jeff Rivera of Linden, Jason and wife Amanda Spencer of Linden, Malcomb and Lorna Hendricks of Linden, Arttu Mykkanen of Finland, Esa and wife Anna Ruosteenoja of Finland; her grandchildren, Jennell and husband Clay Conn, Lauren Spencer, Alex Barbaretta, Joel Hendricks, Kirstin Hendricks, Cheyenne Hoff, Jessie Spencer, Ryker Rivera, Joey Spencer, Spencer Rivera, Mickel Clements, Savannah Rivera, Casper Ruosteenoja, Emil Ruosteenoja, and great-granddaughter Bryleigh Conn; sisters, Lydia (Charles) Justus, Ruby (Dave) Hampton, Charlotte (Leroy) Rife, and Ada Clevinger; one brother, Paul (Pam) Matney; several nieces and nephews and many other children who called her "nana." She is preceded in death by both of her parents; 3 brothers, and grandson, Samuel Rivera. She will be missed by many.
