Norman DENT

December 25, 1925 — December 28, 2009

DENT, Norman - age 84, of Grand Blanc, died Monday, December 28, 2009 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. Services will be held 1 PM Saturday, January 2, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Flint with Pastor Paul Ytterock officiating. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will beheld 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday and 11 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Genesys Hospice or American Lung Association. Mr. Dent was born December 25, 1925 in Catawba Island, OH. He moved to Detroit in 1942 in his senior year of high school and attended Southeastern High School and worked at the train roundhouse for Union Belt Railroad in Detroit after graduation. Norman went into the service at 19 and served in the U.S. Army for two years during World War II in the Transportation Corp and followed the invasion into Germany, France and Belgium. After his tour in the service, he studied to be a tool and die maker and then worked at AC Spark Plug in Flint for 42 years retiring in 1988. After retirement from AC, he worked at Colamco in Owosso for a brief time and then worked for Hi-Stat and Lucas, both in Fenton. He worked at all of the above places until they closed. Then he went to work for Magna-Donnelly until he turned 80 years old and decided to retire a second time due to developing poor health. He is the beloved husband of Kathy of 30 years; eight children, Greg (Bev), Dennis (Alice), Phil (Lori) Michael (Teresa), Debbie (Rick) Miller, Vickie Gilles, Sandy (Mark) Wolfenden, Kelly (Larry) Drawdy; two step children, Kathy Callaghan and Angie (Jim) Sharich. Norm is the grandfather of 23 grandchildren. He is one of seven children of which, Eugene and Robert are still surviving. He is also survived by in-laws, Marty (Jim) Pope and John (Carol) Steinmetz. He was preceded in death by: his parents, William and Grace Dent; two sisters and two brothers.
