SAMASSA, Oreste Pietro - Age 79, of Fenton-Holly, was reunited with his wife, Gina on August 3, 2009. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, August 7, 2009 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton, Rev. Fr. David Harvey, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Wednesday and 3-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton and from 10 AM until the time of Mass Friday at Church. A Rosary will be recited 6 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to The Kidney Foundation or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Oreste was born July 16, 1930 in Zoppola, Italy. He immigrated from Italy to Toronto at age 17, where he worked as a tailor at Tip Top Tailoring. He then began his life's work and passion in the Tile, Marble and Terrazzo trade. While in Toronto he met Gina Paretti, whom he would later marry. After coming to the United States he and his wife owned their own tile and marble contracting firm, establishing Samassa Tile. Mr. Samassa was passionate about gardening, especially his fruit trees and grape vines. He also raised canaries, rabbits and pigeons. He enjoyed his retirement spending time at his homes in Florida and Holly. Surviving are: three children, Delana and husband Thomas Moore of Fenton, Richard and wife Sheri Samassa of Holly, Susan and husband Stephen Allan of Clio; five grandchildren, James and wife Mary Miller-Moore, Megan and Nicholas Samassa, Evan Allan, Deborah and husband Jody McCord; four great-grandchildren, Aurora, Laydon, Keeley and Miles; sister, Alicia of Argentine; brother, Marco of Germany; sister, Mirella of Italy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gina; parents, Pietro and Maria Samassa; grandparents, Giovanni and Deanella Samassa; brothers, Luigi of Italy, Renato of Argentina.
