Vernon H. ROGERS

ROGERS, Vernon H. - Age 88, of Fairport, MI formerly of Flushing, died Friday, January 30, 2009 at Prestige Pointe of Grand Blanc. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Pastor Tedd Culver officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 1-8 PM and Tuesday from 11:00 AM until time of service. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association. Vernon was born November 6, 1920 in Hornersville, MO, the son of Ulus and Carmen (Wicker) Rogers. He grew up farming and picking cotton with his 2 sisters and brother. He married Vera Trivett February 7, 1940 in Cardwell, MO and she preceded him in death November 22, 2000. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Upon discharge he proudly served as a firefighter for the city of Flint. He was a successful home builder in Flushing, retiring in 1977. Upon Vernon's retirement, he and Vera moved to Fairport. Being an avid sportsman, Vernon spent hours hunting and fishing. Up until 2007 Vernon spent every winter in Rio Hondo, Texas pursuing his love of the outdoors. Surviving are: children, Vernell O'Hara and fiance Charles Percy of Lennon, Verlene and husband Tony Hoskey of Harrison, Verlon and wife Judy Rogers of Ada; 10 grandchildren, Michael O'Hara of FL, Denny (Kathy) O'Hara of Durand, Thomas (Sheila) O'Hara of Flushing, Lisa (Jim) David of Durand, David (Sue) Brooks of Flushing, Patty (Alan) Banasiak of Linden, Tonya (Mike) Wyczalek of Goodrich, Todd (Claire) Rogers of Kentwood, Jennifer (Brian) Radaz of Rockford, Meagon (Darrin) Oliver of Middleville; 25 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary (Hubert) Fortune and Betty Urchyk.
