MARVIN HIMM, of Linden, formerly of Chesaning, died on Friday, September 28. Marvin was born in Saginaw, Michigan, on December 18, 1929 and he was baptized in 1930. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, in Chesaning, Michigan, on September 23, 1945. On September 9, 1950, Marv married Arlowa Crickmore at Salem Lutheran Church in Owosso, Michigan. The Lord blessed their union with 5 children - Gary, Linda, Dennis, Janet, and David. Marvin graduated from Chesaning High School in 1948, after which he proudly served in the US Army at Fort Benning where he played baseball to entertain the soldiers. When he returned home he played fastpitch softball in Owosso and Chesaning. He drove oil tanker trucks before becoming the Chesaning Standard Oil Agent until he was disabled from injuries he sustained on the job. Marv was an avid Detroit Tiger and Lion fan and a proud Michigan Lutheran Seminary booster where Dennis, Janet, and David attended high school. He enjoyed taking care of his yard - whether it was 420 W. Brady in Chesaning, or 8065 Haviland Beach Drive in Linden. He spent the last years of his life living at Caretel Inns of Linden. He and his wife, Arlowa, were known for having people visit them at the lake, traveling to see family, and their love of playing cards. They were regulars at the travelogues shown in different venues. Over his lifetime, Marvin was an active and faithful member at Zion Lutheran Church in Chesaning, Salem Lutheran Church in Owosso, and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Grand Blanc. In each of these congregations he served on the Church Council and various boards and committees. Marvin & Arlowa were generous in their support of the gospel ministry both locally and synodically. He was 88-years old when he was called to his eternal home on Friday, September 28, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Marv donated his body to the University of Michigan for medical research. Preceding Marvin in death were his parents, Edward and Emma; brother Carl and sisters, Elsie and Judy. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Arlowa; his five children; Gary and Sherry Himm of Largo, FL, Linda (Oz) and Tony Pace of Fort Mill, SC; Dennis and Kay Himm of Grand Blanc, MI, Janet and James Cady of Fenton, MI, and David and Chris Himm of Germantown, WI; 15 Grandchildren; 21 Great Grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, along with brothers-in-law, Alfred and Bob Crickmore. His Memorial Service will be on Saturday, October 13, at 11:00 am at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 5005 McCandlish Road, Grand Blanc, MI. His pastor and son, the Rev. Dennis Himm, will officiate the service. Visitation will be held 10:00 AM until the time of service. Memorials may be designated for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Piano Fund or Michigan Lutheran Seminary. On March 21, 1995, on his Last Will & Testimony, he wrote: "I, Marvin Himm, want all who read this to know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I have no doubt about my being saved by Him or my being in heaven. I ask my children, whom I love, never to forget the instructions Christ has given to us, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every nation." Share God's Word with everyone at home and abroad. May God grant you peace, love and strength as He guides you through this life. Then at the end of time, we will be reunited in heaven."
