Alfred LeRoy LIBBY

LIBBY, Alfred LeRoy - Age 68, of Swartz Creek, died October 10, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday, October 13 at Sharp Funeral Homes, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, Pastor John Walworth officiating. Interment in Lovejoy Cemetery, Durand . Visitation will be held 1-3 and 5-8 PM Saturday, 1-3 PM Sunday. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Al was born July 1, 1945 in Durand, the son of Clarence and Ida Mae (Gilmore) Libby. He resided in Swartz Creek for 50 years. He worked for General Motors Buick division from 1962 - 2009, of which 13 years was hourly and then for 29 years he was supervisor of the engine plant. In 2005 Al opened his own business in downtown Durand, IMN Antiques, which he operated until the present time. He was an active member of the Durand Chamber of Commerce, where he served as Councilman, Vice President, and in March of this year received the honor of President. He received the Business Person of the Year Award by the City of Durand in March of this year. He enjoyed yard sales, going to casinos, spending time with grandchildren and taking small trips around Michigan and elsewhere. He enjoyed time spent with everyone he encountered, sharing stories and laughs. Al loved nature, fishing, taking rides on country roads and hickory nut picking. He especially enjoyed life and was always positive and will be remembered for his love to make people laugh He loved his bulldog, Burban. Al is survived by his children, daughter Kimberly (Libby) and husband Steve Kelly of Owosso, two step-sons who he raised, Jeffery Janes of Durand, Michael Janes of Swartz Creek; and their mother Rose (Oxley) Libby of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, twins Hannah and Jonah, Madison, Melody and Taylor; 2 brothers, Norm Libby and Melvin Libby, both of Durand; sister, Joan Libby of Florida; several special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
