Alice Loretta Currier

Alice Loretta Currier, age 97, of Grand Blanc, formerly of Burton, passed away on July 9, 2026.

A private family burial will take place next week. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at 10:00AM, on August 22, 2026 at The Grand Blanc Senior Center, located at 12632 Pagels Dr. Grand Blanc, MI.

Alice Loretta Parkhurst was born on December 12, 1928 in Durand, Michigan to Mabel Markell Parkhurst and Evert Leo Parkhurst.

In her early years, she went by the name of Loretta. On April 24, 1945 Loretta married Bernard Charles Currier. They were married for 63 years. Together they had 4 children,

Over the years Loretta had many hobbies. She was very talented and artistic. She was a great seamstress. When they were younger, she made many of her children’s clothes and then she taught sewing classes through Mott. Later, she crocheted many blankets and outfits for her grandchildren and eventually she made beautiful quilts. Loretta was known for her cake decorating. People always requested her to make and decorate their cakes, especially wedding cakes. She even made all of her children’s wedding cakes.

Loretta loved bowling on leagues with her friends and earned many pins and trophies over the years. She also golfed with many of those same friends. Her love of bingo started several decades back and she was always very lucky. She was also an avid reader.

Loretta worked for several years at the V8 engine plant as a grinder.

She loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. They could always make her smile.

In recent years, she moved to her beloved American House in Grand Blanc. Because her first name was Alice, everyone called her “Miss Alice”.

At American House, she took part in many activities, but she always played bingo every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. She did not miss bingo. Most evenings she could be found in her apartment, watching Jeopardy and Wheel (Wheel of Fortune) and she stayed up late most nights playing solitaire on her tablet. She would lose track of time because she enjoyed playing it so much.

We would like to thank the American House community, office, dining and housekeeping staff for all of their help and love. We would like to send a special thank you to all of her friends especially Dale, Audrey and Bonnie.

You all were a blessing these last few years. You were always there to help her and treated her like family. It meant the world to her and us.

The whole Medical Team has been very sweet and helpful to mom. We would like to give a special thank you to Lacretia, Rory and Leta. These angels have been wonderful to her and she loved them all.

Loretta/Miss Alice is survived by her four children: Eugene (Pam) Currier, Melinee Stiff, Tina (Tom) Wightman, and Donna (Darwin) Burks. She also had 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren with a 4th one to arrive this fall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bernard, her daughter-in-law Cecelia Currier, granddaughter Nicole Koszegi and many brothers, sisters, family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a memorial donation to support breast cancer research it would mean a lot to her. It was a cause near and dear to her heart.
