Amanda was born on February 8, 1947, in Flint, to the late Richard Earl and Aileen Scott (Wakeman) Bigelow. On October 23, 1965, she married the love of her life, James F. Whitney, beginning a beautiful marriage of more than 60 years.
Amanda found joy in creating with her hands. She loved knitting and crocheting blankets and other handmade gifts, and she was always eager to learn a new craft. She also loved baking, especially her delicious banana bread and famous sugar cookies, which brought smiles to family and friends alike. Whether gathered around the table for a game of Hand and Foot or simply spending time together, Amanda cherished every moment with those she loved.
Amanda retired from Alpine Market after 20 years of dedicated service. She began working in the bakery, where her love of baking was a natural fit, and later became the office manager, a role she filled with care and dedication.
Family was the center of Amanda's life. She was her family's biggest supporter, always cheering them on and celebrating their accomplishments. She treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren and was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her first great-granddaughter, due on August 6.
Amanda's faith was the foundation of her life. She was a devoted member of Linden United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served as church treasurer for many years. She was also an active member of the Linden Mills Historical Society, the Daughters of the Union, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she proudly served as Historian Officer. She treasured the lifelong friendships she made over the years and especially enjoyed meeting her school friends for lunch or dinner, sharing laughter and memories together.
Amanda is survived by her beloved husband, James; her sons, Randall James (Kelli) Whitney of Kendallville, Indiana, and Jeffrey Scott (Lori) Whitney of Fenton; her grandchildren, Brittany (Tony) Harger, Brendan (Aranda) Whitney, and Hanna Whitney; her sisters-in-law, Kathleen (Richard) Horsch and Yoshie Whitney; her lifelong friend, Kathy Lyles; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Kathryn Pierce Stubbs and Margaret Revord; and her special brother-in-law, Gary Whitney.
Amanda will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, generous spirit, and the love she poured into her family, friends, and community.
