Mackie, Andrew - Age 99, passed away on May 18, 2023 in Flushing, Michigan. He was born on September 20, 1923 in Kilbirnie, Scotland. In 1926 his family immigrated to the United States, settling in Flint, Michigan. Andy was a kind man, strong in his faith and gifted with an ever-present sense of humor. He enjoyed singing, playing golf, watching any kind of sport on TV, and eating "Mackie-sized" portions at meals with his loving family.
Andy graduated from Flint Central High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the second World War, serving in Africa and Italy. In 1945, Andy married Kathryn J. Legree and celebrated 64 years of marriage before Kathryn passed away in 2011. Following his military service, Andy had a long career as an accountant for General Motors, Grand Blanc. Andy enjoyed using his musical talents as an active member of Civic Heights Bible Church and Bethany Baptist Church, Grand Blanc.
Andy is survived by his dear friend, Rosemary Slobodian, his son Robert Mackie (Judy), his daughters Janice Smith (Gary) and Gail Hamaker (Tim); six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Peebles Mackie (nee' Stevenson); his father, William Bain Mackie; his wife Kathryn J. Mackie (nee' Legree); and his sister, Margaret Ann Breuninger (nee' Mackie).
A private memorial luncheon will be held to honor Andy's life. Those wishing to donate to a charity in Andy's name may consider supporting Flint Central Church of the Nazarene, whose music program was a source of joy and comfort for Andy.
