Anthony Aloysius Sporer, of Fenton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 20, 2026. He was 91 years old.
Born October 6, 1934, in Detroit, he was the son of Anthony Joseph and Mary Anna (Zemmin) Sporer. He graduated from De LaSalle High School and attended John Carroll University. Anthony served in the United States Army, serving with Company B of the 67th Tank Battalion. On October 13, 1962, he married Arlene Rennwald at Our Lady of Good Council in Detroit, and together they enjoyed a loving 63 years together, raising their family and making wonderful memories along the way. Anthony was a master plumber and a partner with the A.J. Sporer Company. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton.
Anthony enjoyed traveling from camping with his children to his motor home with Arlene putting on thousands of miles across the country. He was so handy and could fix anything with pliers, duct tape and plumbing parts. Anthony loved and was loved by Arlene’s family, they would visit them in New Jersey every year and even bought property in Venture Out together. They spent more than 25 years going to Venture Out where they made many lifelong friends, playing tennis, pickleball, table tennis, boating and fixing bicycles.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife Arlene Sporer; their four children Jean Ferguson (Brian), Joseph Sporer (Kim), Pamela Connelly (J. Patrick) and Edward Sporer (Tammy); seven grandchildren Kelly Kleiman (Scott), Kavan Ferguson (Karina), Kayla Connelly, Keaton Connelly (LeAnn) , A.J. Sporer, Kurt Slay (Mandy) and Kali Slay; nine great grandchildren, Carter, Leola, Korbin, Daisy, Nate, Todd, Evan, Natalie and Boaz; a sister in law Mary Sporer and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings, Anne Burke (Jerry), Sr. Jean Anthony (Clare Sporer), Bill Sporer, Margaret Jurn (Bob) and John Sporer (Mary).
A Funeral Mass will be held on July 25th, 2026 at 11 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Fenton, with Father Robert Copeland presiding. Entombment will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Fenton. The family will receive friends from 10am until time of Mass. A luncheon will follow the mass in the Church Hall.
