Bannie Jasper Edwards

Edwards, Bannie Jasper, age(78) a faithful soldier of the Lord went home to be with his loving Savior, Saturday January 19, 2013. After being diagnosed with cancer God blessed Bannie and his family with one more year of memories. Leaving behind his loving wife of 55 yrs. Martha Lee, 3 children and their spouses, Brian & Terry Edwards of Linden, Ramona Bowman of Lansing, Stephen & Stefani Edwards of Grand Blanc, 11 grandchildren and their spouses and 13 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 3 PM Wednesday January 23, 2013 at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Twp. with Brother Tom Merrick officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday January 22, 2013 from 1-8 PM and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Bannie, better known as "BJ" was born on December 31, 1934 to Ellis Edwin Edwards & Edna Alexandria Edwards in Derma, Mississippi. He started his career with General Motors at 18 yrs. old, went to serve his country in the marines for 4 yrs, then married Martha Lee Payne in May of 1957 and went on spending the rest of their lives being Godly examples to their children & grandchildren. He was a faithful member of Great Lakes Baptist Temple for 54 yrs. Bannie retired from GM in 1987 and filled his days with umpiring/refereeing. If you knew Bannie at all he always had a story for every game he ever officiated. Everyone loved Bannie from the moment they met him. Besides his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren he also leaves hehind 4 surviving sisters & 2 surviving brothers. Our hearts are comforted knowing we will see him again in heaven, with the many that have gone on before him. Bannie is preceded in death by: his parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 2 brothers-in-law & 2 sisters-in-law. We want to say a special thank you to Dad's wonderful nurse, Denise Fortune (Genesys Hospice Care) and his most gracious and loving daughter-in-law, Terry Edwards for their diligent care.
