Barb was born on May 2, 1949, in Owosso, Michigan to the late Joseph and Mildred Tomasek. She graduated from Durand Area High School, Class of 1967. Barb continued her education at Western Michigan University earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She married the love of her life, Frank, on April 8, 1972. Together they were blessed with their two daughters, Stephanie and Debra. Barb's first teaching position was as a student teacher at Seymour Elementary School in Flushing, where she continued as a full-time teacher and spent the next 32 1/2 years teaching second grade. During that time, she again enrolled herself back in school, this time at Oakland University earning her Master's Degree in Education.

Barb came by being a teacher naturally, as she cherished reading and could often be found with a book in her hand. As a mother, she was always present in her daughters’ lives by serving as a band mom, Catechism Teacher, and shopping buddy. When her daughters grew to adulthood and had their own children, Barb continued this legacy of supporting her grandchildren in all their endeavors. She would do anything for her grandchildren, and they lovingly called her Nama. Barb was a selfless person; giving and caretaking came as natural to her as teaching. She was devoted to her faith and cherished saying her daily Rosary. She certainly made an impact on many people's lives so there is some measure of peace knowing that her legacy lives on in the lives of so many others.

She is survived by her loving husband, Francis "Frank" P. LaChance; her daughters, Stephanie LaChance and Debra (Pat) Tift; five grandchildren, Collin Tift, Isaac Tift, Aubrey Tift, Owen Bunting, and Paili Bunting; her sister, Judy (Rod) Lab and her brother, Joseph (Stephanie) Tomasek. Barb is further survived by many other dearly loved family members and friends too numerous to list, but never forgotten.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (Walt) Wisniewski.

Barb's family would like to thank the staff at McLaren Neuro-ICU for their exceptional care given to Barb and the compassion shown to her family during her final days. The peace of mind you were able to gift us will forever be remembered.
