Barbara Mae Smith, 92, of Flint Township and longtime resident of Flushing, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by her loving family at her home on July 27, 2025.

Born January 3, 1933 in Royal Oak, MI she was the daughter of William Carl Franklin and Winnifred Fidelia (Jordan) Witt. Barbara met Robert J. Smith, the love of her life, in 1949 when she was living with the family of Rev. Waldo Martindale, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Flushing. In exchange for room and board, she assisted with housework and caring for the children, and attended Flushing High School. Shortly after graduating, she married Robert on June 16, 1951 and they made their home in Flushing. Barbara was a homemaker, but also worked for many years as office manager at Dr. Mills’ and Dr. Nikola’s optometrist offices.

Barbara was a long time member of the Mayfair Bible Church. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting, not only making quilts for family members, but working with the Mayfair Piecemakers creating quilts for charity. She quilted lap blankets for Mid-Michigan Honor Flights and walker bags for charity and friends. She also loved ceramics and after retirement while she and Robert spent winters in Delray Beach, FL, she inventoried as well as taught ceramics. Barbara loved researching and documenting family genealogy, traveling with her husband around Michigan and New York to gather information.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Joyce Wierzbicki and husband Rick of Flushing, MI; two sons, David Smith and wife Debie of Middleville, MI and Timothy Smith and wife Kelli of Hudson, IL; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; half-brother Dennis "Butch" Witt and his wife Janice of Clawson and half-sister Darlene Witt Bulman McDaniel of Clawson, as well as a beloved niece Caron Personke of Sun City, AZ and other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert J. Smith and one sister Patricia Frame.
