Beatrice May Linder

Beatrice May (Portney) Linder, age 101, of East Lansing, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, in the chapel at Machpelah Cemetery, 4615 Branch Road, Flint, Michigan. Rabbi Yisroel Weingarten will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Congregation Shaarey Zedek, 1924 Coolidge Road, East Lansing, MI 48823.

Beatrice was born on April 26, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Herman and Anna (Schnider) Portney. She graduated from Detroit Central High School. During World War II, Beatrice joined the workforce, working in factories supporting the war effort on the home front.

She married Max Linder on March 1, 1953, in Flint, Michigan. They shared 37 years of marriage before Max preceded her in death on December 27, 1990. Beatrice was a devoted member of Congregation Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing. In her free time, she enjoyed needlepointing, reading, and playing Mahjong.

She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Linder Doran and her husband, Woody DeMayo; her son, Stephen Linder and his wife, Iris; five grandchildren, Kye Doran and her wife, Olivia Bormann, Justin Linder and his wife, Carrie, Eric Socolofsky and his wife, Gloriane Yi, Jason DeMayo and his wife, Becca Butler, and Lindsey DeMayo Shaw and her husband, Jeff Shaw; and eight great-grandchildren, Rylan, Brooklyn, Finn and Leif Socolofsky,  and Quinn Linder, Sunny DeMayo, and Hayden and Brooks Shaw.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Beatrice was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Portney, and her sister, Eleanor Metcoff. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
