SMITH, Benjamin C. - Age 61, of Fenton, died Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Genesys Hospice. Services will be held Wednesday, August 27th, 10:30 a.m. at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd, Fenton with Pastor Dean Dumbrille and Gary Hicks officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 26th 4-9. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the family. Ben was born September 15, 1952 in Flint, the son of Louis E. Smith and Linnie P. (Lawrence) Smith. He was a 1970 graduate of Ainsworth High School. Ben and Cherie were High School sweethearts and were married September 9, 1972 in Flint at St Paul Lutheran Church. The following year Ben received his Bachelor's degree from Mott Community College. With his father he owned Ben and Louie's Tire on Ballenger Hwy. He also owned Fenton Wholesale Tire Co. Ben and Cherie were 2 only children with no kids, who devoted their lives to each other. Their lives were so intertwined people said their name as one Benandcherie. He loved our community and served on the Fenton Park Bd, Planning Commission and City Council. Together the volunteered at many community events, he was always SO proud of Fenton and wanted to serve in any way he could. He was a loving, generous, caring friend to many and a devoted husband to Cherie and a great son to Edie Smith, the best step mom ever. He was preceded in death by his parents.
