ENGEL, Reverend Brant Alan - age 70 of Hartland, formerly of Redford, went to be with the Lord, with Bonnie and his children by his side, on May 22, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2026 at St. Paul Lutheran Church located at 402 S. Ballenger Hwy, Flint, Michigan 48532 with Reverend Dean Dumbrille officiating. Private interment will follow on Monday June 1, 2026 at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan. The family will receive guests from 3:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, May 29, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, Michigan 48430 and at church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Pastor Engel to St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, Ephphatha Lutheran Mission Society of the Deaf or Lutheran Church of Christ the King for the deaf.
Brant was born on August 4, 1955 in Royal Oak, Michigan to the late Gordon F. and Joyce A. (Bellhorn) Engel. He is a 1973 graduate of Lutheran High School West in Detroit, where he later became the principal and football coach. Brant achieved his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University before receiving his Master's Degrees from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He retired from the Detroit Public School System and has served 40 years in the Ministry, in addition coaching football, softball, basketball and being an overall avid sports fan. Brant was known to enjoy his Crown Royal, cigars, bowling, and musicals though his greatest pleasure was watching his kids and grandkids play sports with Bonnie. His greatest joy was the cherished time that he spent with his grandchildren, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie. Children, Gordon (Jamie) Engel of Davisburg; Brandon (Kimberley) Engel of South Lyon; Meaghan (Eric) Oprisiu of South Lyon; Joshua (Brandie) Cupp of Grand Blanc; Sara Cupp of Howell; Kayla (Tim) Frost of Burton. Grandchildren, Jackson; Grace; Addison; Chase; Gaelen; Luke; Zoey; Bennett; Evelyn; Katherine; Brinley; Jameson; Sydney; Xander; Hunter; Gabriel; Gwendolyn; Elizabeth. Brother's, Craig (Malo) Engel of Canton and Eric (Hollyn) Engel of Fort Collins, Co. Uncles, Elmer Engel and Joe Bailey. Sisters in law, Christy Engel and Sharon Hill. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Brant will be welcomed into heaven by his parents and brother, Dale Engel.
