Carol J. Hollar

September 24, 1932 — April 3, 2026

Linden

Carol J. Hollar, a lifelong learner and adventurous spirit, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, at the age of 93, in Linden, Michigan. Carol was the daughter of Clarence Johnson, and Vernace (Peabody) Johnson. Carol attended Michigan State University where she majored in education, and met her husband to be and love of her life, Robert George Hollar.

Graduating in 1954, she married Robert one year later. They moved to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Through college and Robert’s military service, they created enduring friendships which lasted through the years.

The couple moved to Grosse Pointe after Robert completed his military service. Over the course of her life, she earned three master’s degrees, a testament to her belief that education was not simply a phase of life but a lifelong pursuit. She never stopped seeking knowledge, and in fact, pursued architecture as her next field of study. She and her husband, Bob went on to build several homes throughout their marriage of 70 years. Her dedication inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her.

When she wasn’t in a classroom, Carol could often be found exploring new places. She loved to travel, and her adventures took her far and wide, enriching her life with experiences and memories that she treasured dearly. Whether discovering a new culture or revisiting a favorite destination, Carol approached the world with openness and wonder.

Carol is survived by her daughter Leigh (Boyt) Johnson, her son John (Suzanne) Hollar, grandchildren William Hollar and Samantha (Neils Aerts) Hollar, and one great -granddaughter, Mavis Louise Hollar.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Robert G. Hollar, and her brother, Kenneth, and sister-in-law, Lois.

She was dearly loved by many friends and extended family. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
