ENGEL, Carole Ann - Age 88, of Hale MI, most recently Brighton passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of Carole's life service may be announced at a future date. Those wishing to make contributions may do so to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Carole was born August 24, 1937, in Berkley, Mi, the daughter of Eugene and Dorothy (Briggs) West. She was a 1955 graduate from Berkley High School. She married George Robert Engel on December 26, 1959, in Detroit. George preceded her in death January 11, 2019. During their early years of marriage while George was in the military in Huntsville Alabama, she worked in data entry at the missile facility while George was in the Army working on various missile programs. She had resided in Hale, MI since 1998, coming from Sterling Heights. Upon retirement in 1998 Carole and George spent their winters in Clearwater Florida enjoying the Florida warmth during winter and their summers on Sage Lake. She enjoyed volunteering at the local thrift store with friends and best of all sitting in the shade with a diet cherry coke in hand while taking in all the lake happenings.

Carole was an avid Hand Bell player for the United Methodist Church in Utica, MI as well as her local church in Clearwater. She attended multiple handbell shows and competitions during her time ringing. She also enjoyed golfing, waterskiing, going to garage sales and spending time on the lake. Carole was also an exceptional bowler and enjoyed the competition and camaraderie of her long-time bowling teammates.

Carole was an award-winning baker with many Blue Ribbons from the Michigan State fair for her delicious nut bread and her cast iron pineapple upside down cake. Many of her recipes were published in the State fair cookbook.

Surviving are her daughter, Dana (Robert) Blasko of Fenton; son, Dale (Sally) Engel of Linden; granddaughters, Rebecca, Whitney and Megan. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Dorothy West; sister, Norma Porter; and brother, James West. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
