Cecilia Jane McGinnis

McGinnis, Cecilia Jane - age 70 of Flint, Michigan, passed away at home in Flushing, Michigan, with her family by her side, on January 31, 2026.

Cecilia was born on September 15, 1955 in Flint, Michigan to the late Buford and Dorothy Stork Allen. Jane was an only child, but growing up she loved to spend time with her cousins and family. They loved to camp and travel. She loved to learn and continued her education for a time at Ricks college in Rexburg, Idaho and Mott Community College in Flint, MI. Education was always important. Jane was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout most of her life. She loved and served in many callings within the church from being a primary teacher, to working with the youth, and being the librarian. The church was her safe haven. It was home away from home. Meeting friends that became family, and always having a place to go in times of need. She loved to be around her children. During our childhood she worked and volunteered for Neithercut elementary. She helped for every school event from setting up a school store to skating parties for the kids after school in the gym. She was always involved in helping, serving, and being ever present for not just her children but the school and the kids in the neighborhood to make sure they were cared for and loved. She later worked for a doctors office and remained there the majority of her time with a few adventures in the middle, but spent her time in that office close to the very end. She married her sweetheart, Jerry on December 30, 1981. They loved each other fiercely. After he passed, she became the rock of the family and did everything to take care of her children. Every scraped knee, school dance, church activity and more...she was there. Being a grandma was her true calling. She loved being a grandma and was equally involved in all the activities a grandma would do. Jane was the true definition of light and love.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband and eternal companion, Jerry McGinnis, daughter, Shannon McGinnis, step daughter, Crystal Galliway, parents Dorothy and Buford, and grandson, River. She is survived by her children Chad McGinnis, Evelyn (Sara) McGinnis, Chris (Zesta) McGinnis, Katie (Aaron Vaughn) McGinnis. Nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren

To celebrate our sweet mothers life, we would request that guests wear at least one item or accent of red. It was her favorite. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be greatly appreciated to help cover expenses during this difficult time. A Celebration of Jane's Life will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48507. The service will also be live streamed and can be viewed via the link at the base of this obituary. A memorial luncheon will follow the service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (1225 Robert T Longway Blvd., Flint, Michigan 48503). The family will receive guests at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
