Charles “Bucky” Bucknam, age 78, of Fenton, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026, surrounded by his wife and children. A Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 5, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton. Pastor Peter Ahlersmeyer officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday and 10:00 AM Monday until the time of the service at the Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions would be appreciated to the American Diabetes Association.
Born in Waterville, Maine, Bucky relocated to Michigan during his tenth-grade year. He proudly graduated with the Fenton High School Class of 1966. Following graduation, Bucky answered the call of duty, serving with honor in the United States Army, which included a two-year deployment in Korea. Upon returning to civilian life, he established a career defined by loyalty and hard work, dedicating 41 years of service to General Motors before his well-deserved retirement.
Bucky was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he gave generously of his time, serving faithfully as both an elder and an usher.
Bucky was blessed to find love twice in his lifetime. He shared many beautiful years with his first wife, Sandra Bucknam, until her passing. On September 14, 2013, he was united in marriage to Linda, with whom he shared a beautiful and fulfilling chapter of life.
Known as an avid golfer and an enthusiastic pontoon captain, Bucky was happiest when out on the water or on the green. Bucky also enjoyed swing dancing and line dancing, becoming a regular Fred Astaire. He lived his life guided by a few wonderfully practical rules: don’t fix what isn’t broken, take care of what matters most, and never waste a good day that could otherwise be spent on the golf course. His quick wit and fantastic sense of humor will be truly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda; his children, Scott (Tabitha) Bucknam, Jeffrey Bucknam, and Stacey McBride; and his stepchildren, Jay and Brian (Jennifer) Wykes. He leaves behind a rich legacy through his grandchildren, Silvia and Karah Bucknam, Amelia and Theodore Farley, Trever and Patrick McBride, and Emily and Addison Bucknam; as well as 7 step-grandchildren and 12 cherished great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Deborah Kinney and Betsy McGlauflin.
Bucky was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Bucknam; his parents, Hortense and Bob Bucknam; and his siblings, Joann Oberhide and Charles “Mick” Chambers.
