Charles Nielsen, Sr.

NIELSEN, Charles Davis, Sr. - Age 94, of Swartz Creek, passed away April 16, 2019. Funeral Services will be 2 PM Friday, April 26, 2019 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel at our temporary location Hill Creek Church 5363 Hill Road, Swartz Creek (Mundy Twp.). Pastor Scott Reed officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Thursday April 25. Interment will be 2:30 PM Wednesday, May 1 at Great Lakes Cemetery, 4200 Belford Rd., Holly Memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Genesee County Humane Society. Charles was born May 3, 1924 in S. Portland, ME, the son of Arthur and Laura (Belcher) Nielsen. He married Thelma E.M. Gilbert in Swartz Creek on March 22, 1946. He proudly served in the US Navy Submarine Division and later in the US Air Force as an Airplane Mechanic and Flight Simulator Instructor. Charles also was employed in the Maintenance Department of the Flint Public Schools and later as a Stationary Fireman at U of M Flint. He was a member of the Submarine Veterans Inc.. Charles enjoyed talking to people about his military career. Surviving are: wife, Thelma; children, Diane (Ronald) Horton, Charlie Nielsen Jr., Sondra (Mark) Letavis , and Janet (Jon) Baugher; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild; sisters, Kathryn Clark and Nancy Conroy.
