Clarence James ‘CJ’ Callaghan, known to many as ‘Boogie’, age 73, passed away suddenly on April 26, 2026 at his home. Boogie was an avid outdoorsman and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Known for his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication, he spent 30 years working for General Motors, where he served as an assembler, heavy repairman, and a respected committee man. Boogie never slowed down, owning and operating a snow plowing and lawn maintenance business for 42 years. He also farmed with passion, planting corn and hay, raising sheep, and working as a cattle farmer - famously naming every cow he cared for. His love for the outdoors extended to hunting and fishing, especially fly fishing, which brought him great joy. He had a lifelong appreciation for classic cars, particularly Camaros, and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson. He was proud of his Irish heritage and grounded in his faith. Boogie also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Cody Jo, and his favorite cat, Pookapook. Boogie was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Rose Callaghan; his beloved son, Gabriel Callaghan; and his siblings, Elizabeth Callaghan, Michael Callaghan, and Rose Callaghan. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Callaghan (lovingly known as Charlie); his son, Nathan (Cassandra) Callaghan; his stepson, Justin (Tiffany) Hitsman, and his grandchildren: Gabrielle (Jonathon) Wensley, Kealy Callaghan, Brooke (Tyler) Sanders, Jessica Callaghan, Claire Callaghan, Alison Callaghan, Amanda (Sho) Rydberg, Colton Carson, Wyatt Carson, Paige Callaghan, Ben Hitsman, Karleigh Hitsman, and Haley Hitsman. He is also survived by his siblings, Sydney Stone, Cece Callaghan, and Patrick Callaghan, as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Boogie leaves behind a legacy of hard work, deep love for his family, and a life well lived. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Siler Lake Rd., Fenton, MI 48430 with Fr. David Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery in Howell, MI. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the funeral home. A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Wednesday. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
