Clayton Franklin McDONALD

McDonald, Clayton Franklin - Age 83, of Swartz Creek, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, burial immediately following at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Pastor Lawrence Gill officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday from 11:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Avalon Hospice. Mr. McDonald was born September 2, 1928 in Grindstone City, the son of Joseph Franklin and Mary (Perdue) McDonald. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Marines. He married Mary Ellen Gire April 4, 1959 in Flint and she preceded him in death November 23, 2008. He retired in 1995 from Genesee Valley Mall as Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. Mr. McDonald was a member of the Swartz Creek American Legion Post 294 and the Mundy Township Volunteers. Surviving are: 2 sons, Anthony McDonald of Swartz Creek and David and wife Crystie McDonald of Goodrich; 4 grandchildren, Mary Gregory, Nicholas Gregory, Kevin Vial and Kelly and husband Kevin Smith; 3 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Jeanette and husband Jim Hewitt of Ubly, Mary Lou and husband Kirk Powers of Milford and Fran and husband Bob Jelinek of Suttons Bay; 2 sisters-in-law, Jackie and husband Gerard Rice of Swartz Creek and Leona McDonald of Gilbert, AZ; several nieces and nephews.
