Dana A. Thoroman was born on October 24, 1963, to his beloved parents, Darrell and Shirley Thoroman, in Flint, Michigan at F.O.H.

From an early age, Dana learned the importance of family and friendship. He shared an endearing bond with his parents, one that remained deeply meaningful to him always. All of his family shared musical talent, which was passed onto him. It was an often occurrence that generations were found singing together. He discovered Elvis Presley, who became his favorite influence in music. Many say he echoed the voice of Elvis himself, that his singing came from the soul. He taught himself to play guitar and competed in many talent shows in school. He graduated from Goodrich High school, Class of 1981.

In 1986, Dana became a father to his daughter, Jenna. From the very beginning, the two shared an unbreakable bond-one filled with love, laughter and fortitude. Dana embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly and never looked back. He inspired passion for music in Jenna as well, they sang countless times together, from informal to formal occasions, and had many fun karaoke nights with treasured friends.

His favorite place to get away was Atlanta, Michigan, where he reminisced about family trips to the north woods. He enjoyed Classic TV specials like Batman and MASH, reciting most of the dialogue by heart. He could be found during the summer months, at car shows and cruising the bricks with many friends. He restored several classic cars of his own.

In 2011, Dana founded his own independent appraisal business, “Fastback Appraisal,” named after his 1967, “Fastback” Impala. He was incredibly proud to be a business owner and took great pride in helping others.

Most people who knew Dana, would say he genuinely loved engaging in conversation with others, listening attentively, he made you feel heard and seen. He was quick-witted and humorous, able to remember names and the faces, of people he just met. Dana often joked that he was a “book of useless information,” though, he was anything but that. He had many friends. He was thankful to have a big brother, that loved him through every season of life and cherished him so much.

In 2015, Dana embarked on what he proudly considered the greatest adventure of his life: becoming “Grandpa.” To him, Reed and Luke, were life itself and he lived for every chaotic, heartfelt moment of it. From day one, they had him completely wrapped around their fingers. Life was filled with joy, in their infectious belly-rolling laughter, and Christmas Eve sleepovers became a much-anticipated tradition each year. These are the moments that will be cherished eternally. Their love filled parts of his heart he never knew existed, bringing him immeasurable purpose, light, and joy.

Today, we celebrate Dana’s life, his legacy, and the love he so freely gave during his time on this earth. We thank God for his great purpose and timing, always. His presence was truly special and his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those who love him.

Please continue to keep Dana’s family in your prayers during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with precious loved ones who have gone before him, and that his life has only just begun in heaven.

Dana is survived by his loving daughter, Jenna (Keith) Jeffery, two grandsons, Reed & Luke Jeffery; brother, Chris (Faith) Thoroman; two nieces, Amber (Nick) Dekelaita and Christina (Ryan) Fulton. Dana is further survived by many other family members and cousins.
