POWELL, Danny - age 86 of Grand Blanc, died Monday, November 3, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Genesys Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, November 7 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Wednesday and 3-8 PM Thursday at Sharp Funeral Home and Cremation Center, G- 6063 Fenton Rd., Grand Blanc Township. Those desiring may make contributions to Kettering University or Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Dan was born March 9, 1928 in Alpena, the son of Paul and Kathleen Powell. He has lived in the Grand Blanc, Flint area since 1945. He married Doris Marie McAra in Flint in April of 1948. He was a graduate of Alpena High School and a graduate of GMI in 1949. He worked for General Motors for 22 years then Hall Steel for 5 years. In 1973 he went on to purchase his first fishing tackle company, Mason Tackle. In 1978 he purchased Ed Cumings Inc. and the Fishing Tackle Grab Bag in 1980. He was a lifelong member of Warwick Hills Country Club. Dan and his family were very active in the community and sponsored several scholarship funds on an annual basis. He is survived by his wife, Doris; three children, Jeff Powell, Chip Powell and daughter Nancy and husband John Denne; eight grandchildren, Michael, Scott, Ryan, Katie, Dan, Elizabeth Powell, Ann and John Denne; half-sister, Mary Kay Griswold of Fenton; several nieces and nephews and his much loved dog, Casey. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry and daughter-in-law, Joan Powell. Online tributes may be shared on the obituary page of www.sharpfuneralhomes.com
