Darleen Ann FERRIS

FERRIS, Darleen Ann Odykirk -- Age 79, of Flint and Durand, died March 3, 2012. Darleen has been cremated per her wishes. A memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, March 9 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6-8 PM Thursday, and 1-2 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Durand Senior Care and Rehab Center, or a charity of your choice. Darleen was the daughter of William H. and Lila M. (Laquire) Odykirk. She was born at her parent's home in Flint, MI on September 23, 1932. Darleen was a proud Dye School alumnus. In 1948, she was crowned Dye School Queen. She was a homemaker for most of her life. In her later years, she provided in-home care for several families over a 15 year period. Darleen enjoyed planting dozens of petunias every year at her home in Flushingit was the pink house with the pink and white petunias on Beecher Rd. in Flushingshe also cooked up kettles of goulash, spaghetti sauce, and tomato-potato-vegetable soup for all to enjoy. She baked plenty of cakes that were served with the four corners missingshe always reserved the corner pieces for herself. She loved to put on her "dancing shoes" and go out dancing with "the girls"Gracie, Lola Wray, and Hilda. They regularly "made plans" to meet up and "go dancing" for 20 plus years. Darleen was a doting grandmother who spoiled her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them all so much. Over the past several years, Darleen's loving companion, Don, was always at her side. Survivors include constant and loving companion, Donald R. Maples, of Flint; children Sandra E. Ferris of Ypsilanti, Leonard P. Ferris Jr. (Cindy) of Bend, Oregon, Loretta M. Buckel (Rod) of Durand, Judith A. Ferris of Houston, TX; 7 grandchildren Jason P. Ferris of Portland, OR, Molina M. Ferris of Anacortes, WA, Johanna J. Ferris of Bend, OR, Alan L. Buckel of Owosso, Emily J. Buckel of Swartz Creek, Audrey A. Buckel of Durand, Brianna E. Yale, of Houston, TX; 2 great-grandchildren Alexander L. Buckel of Durand, Anna L. Hendricks of Anacortes, WA; brothers William C. Odykirk (Wanda) of Mt. Pleasant, Richard H. Odykirk of Gladwin; numerous other relatives. Darleen was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Robert L. Odykirk.
