Darrell was born on August 22, 1953 in Roth, Virginia to the late William & Ocie Compton. He graduated from Carman High School class of 1972. He retired in 2006 after 33 years with General Motors.

Darrell was dedicated to his friends and family. He was always willing to help others and known for being a father figure to many. In retirement Darrell spent time in his garage putzing on multiple projects - as the list always seemed to grow. In his earlier years his favorite past time was camping, he loved all things outdoors. He was a car enthusiast, of which his most idolized car was a 1967 Chevy Impala he named Sweet Dreams. Darrell's guilty pleasure was Dr. Pepper Pop and junk food. Above all his fondest memories were those spent with his family, especially his grand and great grand children.

He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy; his four children, Brian (Katherine) Compton, Christine (Eddie) Hedlund, Ashley (Brandon) Bowman and Haley (Thomas) Wang; five grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Lyden, Grant Healy, Cheyenne Healy, Lucy Compton and Lily Compton; one great-granddaughter, Skyleigh Boone; his sister, Anna Ruth Littlepage and lifelong friend, Doug Golden. Darrell is further survived by many other family members and friends too numerous to list but never forgotten.

In addition to his parents, William (Ocie) Compton he was preceded in death by his siblings, William Paul Compton, Earl Compton, Alfred Eugene Compton, Wanda Compton and Harold Compton.

Darrell's family would like to thank the staff of Maple Woods Manor for their loving care over the past 4 1/2 years. Their dedication to Darrell was a comfort to all of his family.
